Robin and Shannon West grew up in Oregon and met at Oregon State University where they both earned degrees in Wildlife Science. After getting married in 1981 they settled in Alaska where Robin worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Service) and Shannon became a teacher (and raised three children)! Robin’s career with the Service spanned 35 years where he worked in Regions 1, 4, and 7, and for the Ecological Services, Fisheries, Refuges, and Migratory Birds Programs. He retired in 2014 as the Regional Chief of the National Wildlife Refuge System – Pacific Region. Robin and Shannon now live in rural SW Oregon and enjoy family, international travel, and all things related to wildlife and wild places.
